Team Photoniphy

BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru

Team Photoniphy from BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru, aspires to take the idea of a wireless world to the next level with their concept of wireless power transmission. With the Internet of Things (IoT) becoming ubiquitous in home appliances, medical devices, and industrial equipment, Team Photoniphy decided to begin its journey by eliminating the need for batteries in such devices. Convinced by the concept, BMS college decided to fund the building of a prototype.

During the Customer Discovery process at GDC, the team decided to start by exploring the medical implants segment. Several medical implants require batteries or external powering. However, it was soon invalidated as better solutions were existing in the market. They then chose the smart water meter segment, which also got invalidated after discussions with stakeholders. The team could not identify their customer segment during the program. But, the learnings during the program helped the team continue its Customer Discovery journey in other segments.

The team realized that invalidating their initial assumptions of who would be their customers was crucial learning. Going forward they intend to use these learnings and continue their search for a customer segment.
