Team Pratyahara from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, embarked on an ambitious mission to tackle urinary incontinence with a promising concept. Initially, their focus was on women experiencing urge continence, driven by the assumption that a predictive tool for managing sudden urges would greatly benefit this demographic. This assumption was based on the notion that these women would benefit significantly from a predictive tool to help plan their bathroom visits.
GDC’s I-NCUBATE Program played a crucial role in refining Pratyahara’s approach. By offering strategic insight and support, the program guided the team through an extensive customer discovery process. It provided essential tools and methodologies that improved their ability to connect with a diverse range of stakeholders, and identify genuine user needs beyond their initial assumptions.
As they progressed through the I-NCUBATE Program, it became clear that their initial customer segment was too narrow and not fully aligned with the broader market needs. The team’s mentor guided them to reassess their approach and engage more thoroughly with a diverse range of stakeholders, including specialists and patients. This deeper engagement uncovered crucial insights, prompting them to refine their focus.
Through comprehensive feedback and additional research, Pratyahara shifted their attention from a broader group of working women to a more specific and underserved segment: geriatric patients with functional incontinence. This shift was driven by the realization that current solutions for this demographic—such as adult diapers and catheters—were insufficient and often led to additional complications like rashes and infections. By focusing on elderly individuals with reduced mobility, who face unique challenges in managing their condition, Pratyahara was able to tailor their solution to better address these critical gaps.
Pratyahara’s journey through the I-NCUBATE Program vividly illustrates the transformative impact of GDC’s mentorship in turning innovative ideas into meaningful solutions. With their refined approach, Pratyahara is poised to significantly enhance the quality of life for individuals facing incontinence, showcasing how expert guidance can drive impactful advancements and deliver substantial benefits.
